Just a quick review what tourists may encounter in Antwerp. I will add more on my next discovery trip to Antwerp.

“According to folklore, and as celebrated by the statue in front of the town hall, the city got its name from a legend involving a mythical giant called Antigoon who lived near the river Scheldt. He exacted a toll from those crossing the river, and for those who refused, he severed one of their hands and threw it into the river Scheldt. Eventually, the giant was slain by a young hero named Brabo, who cut off the giant’s own hand and flung it into the river. Hence the name Antwerpen, from Dutch hand werpen – akin to Old English hand and wearpan (= to throw), which has changed to today’s warp” – Source: Wikipedia.

  1. Next time you come to Antwerp, check out some of the museums in the city. I really like the Foto Museum and de MAS. Middleheim is also great to have a picnic in if the weather is nice.

    • I know, I leave close to Antwerp. In my previous blogs, i showed some pics of the MAS and the little harbour. The photo museum is great and Middelheim is a nice parc and museum, very interesting with all the art. This time I was in the historic center of Antwerp. Thanks for stepping by.
